What is EMS — and why does it matter?
In simple terms, EMS refers to outsourced manufacturing services for electronics. Rather than doing all design, production, assembly, testing, and logistics in-house, many electronics Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) contract specialized EMS providers to handle (part of) those tasks. This lets OEMs focus on their core strengths — design, marketing, branding — while leveraging the manufacturing capacity, expertise, and cost-efficiencies of EMS firms. Over recent years, EMS has become a backbone of the global electronics supply chain, powering everything from smartphones and wearables to automotive electronics, industrial electronics, medical devices, IoT gadgets, and beyond.
