Chapel Bid

Bishopston Community Council is working with local groups on an exciting opportunity to purchase Murton Chapel and transform it into a vibrant community hub.

Our vision is to create a welcoming space that serves all ages, with potential uses including:

  • Community events and classes

  • Youth clubs and activities for children

  • Health and wellbeing sessions

  • Arts, culture, and performance space

  • Flexible hire for local groups, small businesses, and family celebrations

The project would be fully grant funded, ensuring no additional burden on council tax payers.

Through our recent community consultation, the majority of residents expressed strong support for the bid, alongside many creative suggestions for how the space could be used. We are now exploring funding options and working hard to ensure this important village landmark remains at the heart of the community.

Stay tuned for updates here as the project progresses – and thank you for your continued support. Together, we can keep the chapel in the community for generations to come.

The Bid

Bishopston Community Council, working alongside local groups, has submitted a funding bid to Mallards to purchase Murton Chapel and secure its future as a community hub.

The proposal is now awaiting consideration by the Methodist Trustees, who will decide whether to accept the offer.

If successful, the project will ensure this important village landmark is protected and transformed into a space that benefits everyone – hosting community activities, youth clubs, wellbeing sessions, cultural events, and much more.

This is a community-led initiative, shaped by the feedback and ideas you shared during consultation. We will keep residents updated as soon as we hear back from the Trustees.
